La United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defense (AF&AD) fa firmato un contratto, per un importo superiore ai 500 milioni di Franchi Svizzeri, per la fornitura di 25 addestratori turboelica Pilatus PC-21, unitamente ad un sistema addestrativo a terra e ad un completo pacchetto di supporto logistico.
Dopo la Svizzera e Singapore, gli Emirati Arabi Uniti sono il terzo paese ad aggiornare la linea addestrativa con il più moderno addestratore turboelica sul mercato. L’inizio delle consegne degli aerei e delle attrezzature di terra è previsto nel 2011, in modo da dotare progressivamente gli Emirati con la capacità di addestramento avanzato per i caccia di 4a generazione già in servizio.
La decisione di scegliere il pacchetto addestrativo basato sul PC-21 è stata fatta dopo un’attenta analisi delle varie alternative presenti sul mercato. Si tratta di un grande successo per la Pilatus Aircraft Ltd nel Medio Oriente che potrà favorire la diffusione del velivolo in alti paesi, non solo dell’area.
La Pilatus collabora da 25 anni con le forze armate UAE, mantenendo in efficienza l’attuale flotta di 30 addestratori PC-7. La fiducia acquisita ha sicuramente favorito l’assegnazione della nuova commessa.
(NdR: questo ordine da parte della UAEAF non è in relazione con il contratto, in fase di finalizzazione, relativo alla fornitura di 48 Alenia Aermacchi M-346 da addestramento avanzato. In concorrenza con il PC-21, l’azienda italiana aveva comunque offerto il M-311 in combinazione col Master.)

The United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defense (AF&AD) has entered into a contract in excess of 500 Million Swiss Francs to procure a fleet of 25 Pilatus PC-21 turboprop aircraft, together with an integrated ground based training system and a comprehensive logistics support package.
After Switzerland and Singapore, the UAE is now the third country to revolutionise its training pipeline with the most modern and most advanced turbo trainer aircraft on the market today. Delivery of the aircraft and the complete training system is scheduled to commence in 2011, paving the way for basic and advanced flying training in the UAE to be in line with the 4th generation equipment already in service in the front line squadrons.
The decision to select the PC-21 training system was made after an extremely tough and thorough evaluation by the UAE, which looked at all available options. It is a major success for Pilatus Aircraft Ltd in the Middle East and we believe it will encourage other forces in the region and beyond to take a close look at our pilot training solution.
As a partner to the UAE AF&AD for more than 25 years, in supporting the existing fleet of 30 PC-7 trainer aircraft, this award is proof positive of the confidence and trust our customer has bestowed on Pilatus for securing the future of their basic and advanced flying training requirements.

Whatever - in competition with the PC-21 - the Italian manufacturer offered the M-311 in combination with the Master.)
