52nd City of Turin Trophy & 2025 Italian Gliding Championships 20-meter

The Aero Club of Torino organized its 52nd international soaring competition the "City of Turin Trophy", launching from the Turin/Aeritalia airport. The competition is an annual event which began in 1962. The Sport Commission of the Aero Club of Italy combined the race with the 2025 Italian Gliding Championships for two-seat 20-meter class sailplanes and with the Amateur League category. The competition, which took place across two separate weekends, comprised four race sessions (on the 18st, 21st ,25th and 26th of April). The races planned for the other days were cancelled or declared invalid due to bad weather.
The City of Turin Trophy 2025 was organized as a single Open Class including the 20-meter gliders. At the end of the trophy, from the Open Class final results the 20-meter sailplanes were extracted, to form the scoreboard of the related Italian Gliding Championships 2025. A total of 16 Italian pilots took part in the trophy under the supervision of the International Gliding Commission of the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) which is valid for the IGC ranking.
Alberto Sironi, flying a two-seat Schempp-Hirth Arcus T, with Andrea Venturini as co-pilot, was the convincing winner for his performance in crescendo. The pilot, a member of the "Aero Club Adele Orsi", came fifth in the first race, second in the second and first in the other two valid races. Thanks to these results, Sironi was proclaimed 2025 Italian Champion, in the two-seater 20-meter category. Giancarlo Grinza of the Aero Club Torino gained second place in the City of Turin Trophy 2025 and Vittorio Squarciafico of the Accademia Volovelistica Milanese was placed third.
The three pilots of the Aero Club Torino racing in the Amateur League category were classified in the following order: first (the same result as in the 2024 Trophy), Domenico Bosco flying a Rolladen-Schneider LS-6, second Silvio Siriotto in a DG Flugzeugbau DG-1001S and third Maurizio Gallo Bruno (also the same result as in the 2024 Trophy) piloting a Rolladen-Schneider LS-3/17.
Four Robin DR 400/180R Remorqueur aircraft were used to launch the gliders. In addition to I-ITBF of the Aero Club Torino, I-ITAS based at Castello di Annone, I-ITAR from the VoloVelaNovi association, and I-IMLA from Avio Tortona also arrived at Aeritalia.
