L'Embraer ha consegnato di recente un altro bireattore EMB-145SA alla FAB, Força Aérea Brasileira. Si tratta del quarto di otto velivoli richiesti nell'ambito del programma SIVAM (Sistema de Vigilância da Amazônia), cinque dei quali in versione EMB-145SA (Surveillance Aircraft) e tre EMB-145RS (Remote Sensing).
Ribattezzato R-99A dalla FAB, l'EMB-145SA è un velivolo Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) equipaggiato con un potente radar Ericsson Erieye, montato sul dorso, per controllare il traffico aereo, ed è dotato di sistemi atti ad intercettare segnali radar e radiotrasmissioni. L'R-99A rappresenta l'elemento portante di un sistema integrato di sorveglianza svolto da operatori dislocati sui 5,2 milioni di chilometri quadrati della regione Amazzonica e che spesso agiscono in condizioni ambientali molto impegnative. Oltre al suo importante ruolo di sorveglianza aerea e coordinamento delle operazioni su una sterminata foresta, l'EMB-145SA è anche impiegato per la lotta al contrabbando ed al traffico di stupefacenti. La Força Aérea Brasileira ha dislocato gli Embraer del programma SIVAM sulla base aerea di Anápolis.
Il prossimo utilizzatore del nuovo AEW&C brasiliano sarà la Forza Aerea Greca che, nei primi mesi del 2003, riceverà il primo dei quattro esemplari ordinati di recente. L'aereo deriva dalla stessa piattaforma utilizzata per la famiglia di aerei da trasporto regionale brasiliana. Per soddisfare il requisito della FAB, l'ERJ-145 è stato sottoposto a significative modifiche, la più evidente delle quali è l'installazione dei radar di sorveglianza (sopra la fusoliera per l'EMB-145SA e sotto per l'EMB-145RS/R-99B). Inoltre le varianti mlitari dell'ERJ-145 hanno un raggio d'azione maggiorato e sistemi di bordo adeguati allo svolgimento delle impegnative missioni loro assegnate.

Embraer delivered this week yet another EMB-145SA twin-jet aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB, Força Aérea Brasileira). This is the fourth of a total of eight aircraft to be delivered to the SIVAM Program (Sistema de Vigilância da Amazônia - Amazon Surveillance System) being five EMB-145SA (Surveillance Aircraft) and three EMB-145RS (Remote Sensing).
Dubbed R-99A by FAB, the EMB-145SA is an Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft (AEW&C) equipped with a powerful Ericsson Erieye radar mounted over its fuselage for surveilling and monitoring air traffic, and with special systems that intercept radar and communications signals and provide intelligence on them. The aircraft is the cornerstone of a system that links users located in different points of the 5,2 million sq. km of the Amazon region, operating in some of the most adverse conditions. Besides its important role in the airborne surveillance and control operations in the Amazon region, the EMB-145SA is also instrumental in the support to the repression of smuggling and drug trafficking activities. The Embraer aircraft integrated to SIVAM Program are being operated by FAB from the Anápolis Air Force Base.
Another important customer for this defense aircraft is the Greek Air Force, scheduled to take delivery during the first half of 2003 of the first of a total of four units recently ordered. The aircraft stems from the same platform utilized by Embraer's ERJ family of regional jets. To meet FAB's requirements, the ERJ-145 went through several modifications, of which the most visible are the radar mountings (on top of the EMB-145SA and in the lower fuselage section of the EMB-145RS/R-99B). Moreover, the military versions of the ERJ-145 have increased range and sophisticated systems that guarantee the necessary capabilities for its specific roles.
