Nella prestigiosa cornice della Convention di Las Vegas della NBAA (National Business Aviation Association) la Piaggio Aero Industries ha presentato in anteprima il nuovo P.180 Avanti II, fornito di avionica di nuovissima generazione Collins Pro Line 21, autonomia e velocità di crociera incrementate. Anche la cabina passeggeri è rivisitata, con nuove soluzioni ed equipaggiamenti come l'impianto DVD ed il telefono satellitare.
Nei quattro giorni della Convention NBAA 2004, la nuova versione del P180 ha immediatamente raccolto sei ordini, due dei quali da parte della Sloane Aviation, distributore nel Regno Unito. Il primo Avanti II sarà consegnato a metà 2005 al prezzo previsto 5, 97 milioni di dollari.
Dal 2006 i P.180 Avanti II saranno inoltre dotati del nuovo motore Pratt & Whitney PT6-66B, permettendo l'aumento della velocità massima a 395 nodi (730 Km/h), della quota di crociera a 41.000 piedi (12.500 m) e dell'autonomia fino a 1.600 miglia nautiche (2.963 km). Queste prestazioni faranno del P 180 Avanti II il più moderno e veloce turboprop oggi disponibile sul mercato dei velivoli d'affari. Il piano di produzione Piaggio Aero prevede ora 19 aerei entro il 2004 e 22 nel 2005, mentre il piano quinquennale aziendale punta ad un incremento progressivo della produzione attorno al 9% su base annuale.
Nel corso della Convention di Las Vegas, Piaggio Aero e Messier-Dowty hanno inoltre sottoscritto un importante accordo con per progettazione, sviluppo, costruzione e supporto post-vendita dei carrelli di atterraggio. Messier-Dowty, leader mondiale nel settore con 3.000 dipendenti ed 8 unità produttive in Nord America, Asia e Europa, aprirà con Piaggio Aero, nel suo sito di Sterling, un nuovo centro per di manutenzione per i carrelli d'atterraggio per i P 180 Avanti II che opereranno negli Stati Uniti.
FlightSafety International, società leader mondiale nei servizi per l'aviazione che fa capo al gruppo Berkshire Hathaway, ha a sua volta comunicato che è ormai prossima la certificazione FAA del simulatore di volo del P.180, annunciato alla Convention NBAA di Orlando nel 2003. Piaggio Aero ha fornito a FlightSafety un Avanti per una campagna di prove di volo. Il nuovo simulatore, rispondente ai requisiti FAA Level D e configurabile per il nuovo Avanti II e per la versione originale, sarà localizzato nel centro di addestramento della FlightSafety a West Palm Beach (Florida).

At the 2004 NBAA Convention in Las Vegas, Piaggio Aero Industries unveiled its new P.180 Avanti II, equipped with new generation Collins Pro Line 21 avionics, and offering extended range and increased cruise speed. Also the cabin layout has been further improved, with the introduction of new technologies such as DVD and satellite phone equipments.
During the four day event organized by the U.S. National Business Aviation Association, the new version of the succesful P180 gained six new orders, two of them from Sloane Aviation, UK distributor for the Piaggio products. The first Avanti II will be delivered during the second quarter of 2005, at a preliminary stock price of 5.97 million USD.
The P.180 Avanti II aircraft coming off the production line in 2006 will also incorporate the new Pratt & Whitney PT6-66B turboprop engines, increasing the cruise speed to 395 knots (730 Km/h), the cruise level to 41,000 ft (12.500 m) and extending the range to 1,600 nautical miles (2,963 km). This performance will confirm the P.180 Avanti II as the fastest, state-of-the-art business turboprop on the market. Piaggio Aero plans to produce a total of 19 aircraft in 2004 and 22 in 2005, with a 9% yearly increase in the following three years.
Also during the Las Vegas NBAA Convention, Piaggio Aero and Messier-Dowty undersigned an important agreement for the design, development, manufacture and after-sale support of undercarriages. Messier-Dowty, world leader in the sector with a workforce of 3,000 and 8 production plants in North America, Asia and Europe, will set up in its Sterling site, together with Piaggio Aero, a new support center for the undercarriages of the U.S. based P 180 Avanti II aircraft.
FlightSafety International (Berkshire Hathaway group), world leader provider of aviation services, announced the forthcoming FAA certification of the P.180 flight simulator, first announced at the 2003 NBAA Convention in Orlando. To this aim, Piaggio Aero loaned an Avanti aircraft to FlightSafety for a flight test campaign. The new simulator, designed to satisfy the FAA Level D requirements, has a dual-configuration for both the original Avanti and the Avanti II. It will be located at the FlightSafety training center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
