La Boeing ha recentemente consegnato il primo di sedici B.757-300 alla Northwest Airlines, che raggiunge così un nuovo traguardo del più vasto programma di rinnovo della flotta messo in atto dalla compagnia nei suoi 75 anni di attività. I nuovi aerei andranno a sostituire i DC-10-40 attualmente usati dalla Northwest, riducendo sensibilmente i costi del carburante sulle impegnative rotte domestiche. Le consegne dei restanti B.757-300 sono previste più avanti nel corso dell'anno e proseguiranno nel 2003.
I nuovi aerei, che potranno ospitare 24 passeggeri in prima classe e 200 in economica, saranno utilizzati dalla Northwest dai suoi tre hub a Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul e Memphis nel Tennessee. Attualmente il vettore utilizza 56 B.757-200, l'ultimo dei quali è stato consegnato lo scorso 15 luglia. La somiglianza tra i due tipi consentirà una agevole introduzione del B.757-300 nel ciclo operativo della flotta Northwest, con risparmi nell'addestramento e nella manutenzione.
Il primo B.757-300 della Northwest è anche il primo esemplare consegnato con motori Pratt & Whitney PW2043 che sono stati certificati il mese scorso dalla U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Il B.757-300 motorizzato Pratt & Whitney si basa sull'esperienza di 402 esemplari di B.757-200s attualmente in servizio con turbofan PW2037 e PW2040. La versione potenziata PW2043 raggiunge le 43.000 libbre di spinta con relativi incrementi di prestazioni per il B.757-300. I motori della serie PW2000 sono in servizio da 18 anni ed hanno totalizzato oltre 24 milioni di ore di volo in 10,5 milioni di cicli. Con quest'ultima consegna, il B.757-300 è ora entrato in servizio, negli ultimi dodici mesi, con tre delle maggiori compagnie aeree degli Stati Uniti.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines conferma di aver aggiunto due B.777-200ER (Extended Range) al recente ordine per aerei di linea siglato con la Boeing. I widebody americani in arrivo salgono così a 13: dieci B.777-200ER e tre B.747-400ER merci. Il valore dei due nuovi aerei, che saranno consegnati a fine 2003, è di circa 344 milioni di dollari, che porta il totale dell'ordinativo a 2,3 miliardi di dollari.

The Boeing Company recently delivered the first of 16 B.757-300s to Northwest Airlines, marking another milestone in the largest fleet renewal program in the carrier's 75-year history. Northwest will use the B.757-300 as a replacement for its fleet of DC-10 Series 40s, substantially reducing fuel and operational costs on high-demand domestic routes. Additional deliveries of B.757-300s are scheduled later this year and in 2003.
Northwest Airlines' new aircraft will carry 224 passengers with 24 seats in first class and 200 seats in coach class and will be operateted from the three U.S. hubs in Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Memphis, Tenn. Northwest Airlines currently operates 56 B.757-200s, having taken delivery of its last one on July 15. The commonality between the two models will allow the carrier to easily transition the new B.757-300 airplane into its fleet, and realize savings in training and maintenance costs.
Northwest's first B.757-300 also is the first such Boeing model to be delivered with Pratt & Whitney PW2043 engines, having earned certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration last month. The Pratt & Whitney-powered B.757-300 builds on the proven success of the 402 B.757-200s currently in service with PW2037 and PW2040 engines. The PW2043, a higher-thrust version of the engine, provides 43,000 pounds of thrust and additional performance capability for the B.757-300. The PW2000 series engine has been in service for 18 years and has performed more than 24 million flight hours and 10.5 million flight cycles. With the delivery to Northwest Airlines, the B.757-300 has entered service with three major North American carriers in the past 12 months.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines confirms the addition of two B.777-200ER (Extended Range) airplanes to the airline's recent announcement of Boeing widebody aircraft. This addition brings the total acquisition to 13 widebody airplanes - 10 new B.777-200ER jetliners and three B.747-400ER freighters. The two new airplanes have an estimated value of $344 million, bringing the total estimated value of the acquisition to $2.3 billion. Deliveries of both models will begin in late 2003.
