L’Estonia sceglie il missile Mistral per la difesa aerea Estonia selects Mistral missile for its air defence
Il MBDA Mistral 2 è un missile terra-aria a corto raggio (fino a 6 km) in grado di intercettare vari tipi di obiettivi volanti, compresi quelli a bassa segnatura infrarossa. Ha dimostrato di possedere un notevole rateo di successi (93% su 2.200 lanci di prova), grande efficacia su bersagli in fase di manovra, aerei ad ala fissa, elicotteri a bassissima quota, mezzi volanti teleguidati e missili da crociera. MBDA ha sviluppato diversi sistemi d’arma - terrestri, navali ed aerotrasportati – basati sul missile “fire and forget” Mistral 2 con seeker agli infrarossi di concezione avanzata. Il sistema d’arma Mistral può essere equipaggiato con un thermal imager per operazioni giorno/notte, un moderno ed autonomo congegno IFF (Identification Friend-or-Foe) e può agire in modo coordinato tramite un Mistral Co-ordination Post (MCP). Per la difesa di reparti corazzati o meccanizzati, MBDA ha sviluppato ALBI, una torretta di lancio binata che può essere installata su blindati leggeri. Esso combina la mobilità ravvicinata fornita dal veicolo vettore con l’intrinseca efficacia e la rapidità di reazione del missile Mistral. Il sistema può essere azionato agevolmente da un solo artigliere e può inquadrare un bersaglio pochi secondi dopo che il veicolo si è fermato. I due missili possono essere sparati con un intervallo di cinque secondi. Un altro tipo di lanciatore è l’Atlas, anch’esso con due missili pronti allo sparo. E’ stato concepito per dare mobilità, flessibilità e potenza di fuoco autonoma ai reparti da difesa aerea che utilizzano il Mistral. Può essere montato su veicoli leggeri ed a lungo raggio (Hummer, Unimog, Pinzgauer e simili), oppure è disonibile come piattaforma fissa. Ci vogliono meno di quindici secondi per attivare il sistema, ed i missili possono essere lanciati a cinque secondi l’uno dall’altro. (MBDA) MBDA Mistral 2 is a short range (up to 6 km) surface-to-air missile capable of intercepting a wide variety of aerial targets even those having a low infrared signature. It is characterised by an outstanding success rate (93% from more than 2,200 live firings), a high effectiveness against manoeuvring targets, and has demonstrated its capabilities against fixed-wing aircraft, nap-of-the-earth helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles as well as cruise missiles. MBDA has developed several land, naval and airborne weapon systems based on the Mistral 2 “fire and forget” missile with its advanced infrared seeker. Mistral weapon systems can be equipped with a thermal imager for day/night operation, an autonomous, state-of-the-art Identification Friend-or-Foe (IFF) device and may be co-ordinated with a Mistral Co-ordination Post (MCP). For defence of armoured and mechanised units, MBDA has developed ALBI, a twin-launcher turret which can be mounted on light armoured vehicles. It combines the mobility and protection provided by the vehicle with the specific effectiveness and short reaction time of the Mistral missile. The system can be operated and set up very easily by a single gunner and can engage a target within seconds of the vehicle stopping. Two missiles can be fired successively in less than five seconds. Atlas is another launcher, also fitted with two ready-to-fire missiles. It has been designed to offer both mobility, flexibility, high fire power and autonomy to Mistral Air Defence units. It can be either installed on a large range of high mobility vehicles (Hummer, Unimog, Pinzgauer, etc.), or available in a pedestal version. It takes less than 15 seconds to make the system operational and two missiles can be fired in less than five seconds. (MBDA)
Il Ministero della Difesa dell’Estonia ha firmato con il consorzio formato da MBDA e dalla svedese SAAB AB un contratto - da circa 60 milioni di euro - per l’acquisizione di missili da difesa antiaerea MBDA Mistral e radar associati SAAB Giraffe AMB. La competizione opponeva il consorzio diretto da MBDA al gruppo americano Raytheon. Con questa commessa, l’Estonia diventa il 9° paese europeo e il 27° paese nel mondo ad equipaggiarsi di sistemi di difesa Mistral. Jean-Pierre Talamoni, Direttore Commerciale MBDA, ha dichiarato: “Sono molteplici i motivi che mi rendono lieto per questo contratto. Innanzitutto perché conferma la superiorità del Mistral su tutti i concorrenti del momento, americani o altro e, in secondo luogo, perché rafforza l’inesorabile avanzata verso un’Europa dotata di una propria industria per le necessità della difesa. Infine perché è un privilegio essere stati scelti dall’Estonia che, grazie a questo contratto, realizza la più importante operazione di difesa della sua storia”. Con un ricavo annuo superiore ai 3 miliardi di €, un portafoglio ordini di più di 13 miliardi di € e più di 70 clienti nel mondo, MBDA è il leader mondiale nei sistemi missilistici. Il gruppo vanta 45 sistemi missilistici e di contromisure in servizio attivo ed ha dimostrato le sue capacità come capocommessa di importanti progetti multinazionali. MBDA è controllata congiuntamente da BAE Systems (37,5%), EADS (37,5%) e Finmeccanica (25%). The contract was won by the two-company consortium led by MBDA following a competition against Raytheon of the USA. This latest selection makes Estonia the ninth European country and the 27th in the world to be equipped with a Mistral weapon system. Jean-Pierre Talamoni, MBDA’s Commercial Director, said: “This contract is highly satisfying at several levels, firstly it confirms the superiority of Mistral over the current competition – from the USA and elsewhere, secondly it reinforces the inexorable move towards a Europe equipped by its own industry in meeting its defence needs. Finally, it is a privilege to have been selected by Estonia which, with this contract, is carrying out the most significant defence development in its history”. With an annual turnover exceeding €3 billion, a forward order book of over €13 billion and over 70 customers worldwide, MBDA is a world leading, global missile systems company. MBDA currently has 45 missile and countermeasure systems in operational service and has proven its ability as prime contractor to head major multi-national projects.
