Con una cerimonia tenutasi ieri presso lo stabilimento AgustaWestland di Yeovil, è stato conseganto il primo Super Lynx 300 alla Royal Thai Navy. Alan Johnston, Direttore Generale Westland Helicopters, nel corso del suo intervento ha sottolineato che "Questa consegna ufficiale segna un altro passo avanti verso l'entrata in servizio operativo dell'elicottero. Le ottime prestazioni, l'affidabilità nell'impiego imbarcato e la grande versatilità multi-ruolo che caratterizzano il Super Lynx 300 consentiranno alla Royal Thai Navy di ampliare in modo significativo le proprie capacità operative."
La Marina Tailandese aveva deciso di comperare i nuovi elicotteri navali leggeri verso la fine del 2001, prevedendone l'impiego sulle fregate che operano nei ruoli anti-nave, anti-som, SAR e sorveglianza. I Super Lynx 300 resteranno per un po' a Yeovil, per la fase di addestramento dei piloti e del personale tecnico. Proseguiranno poi per la Tailandia verso la fine del 2004 e diventeranno operativi all'inizio del 2005.
Il Super Lynx 300 è spinto da due turboalberi HTEC CTS800-4N da 1.361 shp (1015 kW) di potenza unitaria al decollo, dotati di Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC). Il cockpit è equipaggiato con un sistema integrato di presentazione dei dati di volo e di missione, comprendente quattro schermi integrati LCD e due schermi Electronic Power System Instrument (EPSI).
La Marina Reale Tailandese sarà la terza forza armata a mettere in servizio il Super Lynx 300, dopo la Marina Reale Malese e quella dell'Oman. La South African National Defence Force ha inoltre ordinato questo tipo di elicottero per utilizzarlo a bordo delle fregate classer Valour.

In a ceremony yesterday at AgustaWestland's Yeovil plant, the first Super Lynx 300 was handed over to the Royal Thai Navy. Speaking at the event Alan Johnston, Managing Director, Westland Helicopters, said "This official hand over marks the next stage towards the aircraft entering operational service. The exceptional performance, ship operating capabilities and multi-role versatility which have made Super Lynx 300 the world's best light naval helicopter, will provide the Royal Thai Navy with a new capability in maritime operations."
The Royal Thai Navy ordered new generation naval helicopters in late 2001 and they will be operated from their frigates performing anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, SAR and maritime surveillance roles. The Super Lynx 300 helicopters will initially remain at Yeovil, while pilots and maintainers are trained. The aircraft will then reach Thailand in late 2004 and enter service in early 2005.
The Super Lynx 300 is powered by two Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) equipped LHTEC CTS800-4N engines each rated at 1,361 shp (1015 kW) for take-off. The cockpit has a fully integrated flight and mission display system that comprises four LCD Integrated Display Units (IDUs), two Electronic Power System Instrument (EPSI) displays and dual control and display units.
The Royal Thai Navy will become the third operator of the Super Lynx 300, after the Royal Malaysian Navy and the Royal Air Force of Oman. The South African National Defence Force has also ordered this type of helicopter to be operated from their Valour Class frigates.
