Ryanair, the leading low-fare airline in Europe, received its 50th Boeing 737-800 airliner today. The U.S. manufacturer delivered the first B.737-800 to Ryanair in March 1999. From then on, the Irish airline signed orders for a total of 155 B.737-800, with options for 123 more. If all the options will be transformed in firm orders, within six years Ryanair will line up an array of 278 B.737-800 airliners. From 2010 Ryanair could operate the youngest mono-type fleet in Europe, reaching the highest level in the air transport market.
"In 1991 Ryanair and Boeing began the Low Cost revoution in Europe," said Paul Fitzsimmons, Ryanair Communication Manager. "Since 1985, when we started our activity, about 80 million passengers saved 8 billion Euro by using our services. Today we offer a network formed by 148 routes in 16 countries. We plan to transport 23 million passengers in 2004, with a total saving of 2.3 billion Euro for the European air travellers.
