JetBlue Airways today unveiled its newest aircraft - the Embraer 190 - at a ceremony at New York’s Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and announced the routes for the 100-seat aircraft including a 10-times daily service between JFK and Boston’s Logan International Airport starting next month.
Starting in January, JetBlue will launch ERJ-190 service between Boston and Austin and JFK and Austin. The next new service will be between JFK and Richmond and Boston and Richmond, starting in March and April. Also planned are future routes between Boston and West Palm Beach, Florida, and between Boston and Nassau in The Bahamas, and between JFK and Burlington, VT and JFK and Buffalo, NY.
“New Yorkers have demanded JetBlue’s low-fare, nonstop service to the business and cultural centers in Austin, Boston and Richmond for some time now,” said airline’s CEO David Neeleman. “Today, as we officially welcome our first ERJ-190 aircraft, we are in a position to bring low-fare, high-quality service to these cities, as well as more non-stop service to Buffalo and Burlington. With the delivery of one new ERJ-190 every 20 days, plus 16 new A 320 aircraft in 2006, and adding seven more gates at New York’s JFK, JetBlue will have the potential to offer up to 200 daily flights, also opening up the possibility of connections at the world’s #1 international gateway airport.”
JetBlue became the launch customer for the Embraer 190 in June 2003 with an order for 100 aircraft, plus options for an additional 100. The carrier later added one ERJ-190 to its firm order count. The first aircraft of this type was delivered to JetBlue in a ceremony in São José dos Campos, Brazil, on September 13, 2005.
