La Bombardier Aerospace ha annunciato oggi di aver firmato un contratto con Air Canada che prevede la vendita fino ad un totale di 90 jet regionali Bombardier CRJ, articolato come segue: 45 ordini, 30 dei quali fermi per 15 CRJ-700 Serie 705 e 15 CRJ-200, e quindici ordini condizionali per CRJ-200, più 45 opzioni. Air Canada ha ordinato questi aerei per la propria controllata regionale Air Canada Jazz. Il contratto è condizionato all'uscita dell'Air Canada dal regime di protezione dalla bancarotta, previsto dal Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA).
Questa transazione ha un valore potenziale di quasi 2,45 miliardi di dollari (USA). La parte che comprende gli ordini fermi ammonta da sola a 821,2 dollari (USA). Le consegne dei CRJ-200 inizieranno nel 2004 e quelle dei CRJ-700 Series 705 nel 2005.
"Air Canada ed Air Canada Jazz sono pienamente soddisfatti della loro attuale flotta di 25 Bombardier CRJ-100 e 10 CRJ-200," ha dicharato Steven A. Ridolfi, Presidente della Bombardier Regional Aircraft. A sua volta, Joseph D. I bireattori CRJ-200 ordinati da Air Canada Jazz sono configurati con 50 posti tutti in servizio Hospitality Class. I CRJ-700 Series 705 avranno invece una doppia configurazione, con dieci poltroncine Executive Class (file separate da ben 96,5 cm), e 65 sedili Hospitality Class Service con un confortevole pitch di 86,5 cm. Air Canada Jazz sarà il primo operatore in assoluto del nuovo Bombardier CRJ-700 Serie 705 LR (Long Range). Spinto da due turbofan General Electric CF34-8C5, il "Series 705 LR" ha un peso massio al decollo (MTOW) di 38.330 kg, un raggio d'azione di oltre 3.500 km ed una velocità di crociera di 880 km/h.
Air Canada ed Air Canada Jazz fanno parte della Star Alliance. Altri membri della Star Alliance che utilizzano i CRJ sono Adria Airways, Austrian arrows, Lufthansa Regional, United Express ed US Airways Express. Sempre nell'ambito di questa alleanza globale, i biturboelica Bombardier Q400 sono invece utilizzati da Lufthansa Regional, Austrian arrows, SAS Commuter ed Air Nippon Network Ltd., mentre la US Airways Express utilizza i Dash 8. L'Air Canada Jazz ha anche in servizio una flotta di ben 71 Dash 8.
Al 31 agosto scorso, gli ordini fermi per velivoli della famiglia CRJ avevano raggiunto il totale di 1.380 esemplari. Conteggiando gli ordini "condizionali" e le opzioni, questo numero sale a 2.520.

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that it has signed a contract with Air Canada for the sale of up to 90 Bombardier CRJ aircraft, as follows: 45 orders of which 30 are firm orders (15 CRJ-700 Series 705 and 15 CRJ-200) and fifteen conditional orders for CRJ-200s besides 45 options. Air Canada has ordered these aircraft for its wholly owned regional airline, Air Canada Jazz. The contract is contingent upon Air Canada's emergence from bankruptcy protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA).
This contract has a potential value of approximately $2.45 billion US. The firm order portion of the agreement has a value of approximately $821.2 million US. Deliveries of the CRJ-200 model are scheduled to commence in 2004, with deliveries of the CRJ-700 Series 705 model commencing in 2005.
"Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz have had tremendous success with the current fleet of 25 Bombardier CRJ-100 and 10 CRJ-200 aircraft," said Steven A. Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Regional Aircraft. Joseph D. Randell, President and Chief Executive Officer, Air Canada Jazz, said. "We look forward to having Executive Class seats available to our passengers in the CRJ-700 Series 705."
The CRJ-200 aircraft ordered for Air Canada Jazz feature 50 seats in Hospitality Class Service. The CRJ-700 Series 705 aircraft feature a dual-class configuration of ten Executive Class seats at an ample 38-inch (96.5 cm) pitch and 65 Hospitality Class Service seats at a comfortable 34-inch (86.5 cm) pitch. Air Canada Jazz will be the first operator of the Bombardier CRJ-700 Series 705 LR aircraft. Powered by two General Electric CF34-8C5 turbofan engines, the Series 705 LR has a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 84,500 pounds (38,330 kg) with a range capability of over 2,200 miles (3,500 km) and cruising speed of 547 mph (880 km/h).
Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz are members of Star Alliance. Other Star Alliance partners operating CRJ aircraft include Adria Airways, Austrian arrows, Lufthansa Regional, United Express and US Airways Express. Bombardier Q400 turboprop airliners are operated by Lufthansa Regional, Austrian arrows, and also Star Alliance partners SAS Commuter and Air Nippon Network Ltd., while US Airways Express carriers operate Dash 8 aircraft. Air Canada Jazz also operates a fleet of 71 Dash 8 aircraft.
Firm orders for the CRJ family of regional jets as of August 31, 2004 stood at 1,380 aircraft. Conditional orders and options could increase the program total to 2,520 CRJ Series aircraft.
