Douglas C-124C 52-1072 conservato presso la Charleston AFB dell’USAF, South Carolina, USA (1995). Il C-124 fu il derivato a doppio ponte di carico del precedente Douglas C-74 Globemaster. Dei 447 Globemaster II costruiti, 243 erano della versione C-124C, con maggiore autonomia e propulsa da quattro motori Pratt & Whitney R-4360-63A da 3.848 cavalli. Il C-124C era inoltre dotato di pod alari per il riscaldamento dell'aria destinata ai motori e di radar AN/APS-42 installato nel radome sul muso. Il carico utile del Globemaster II superava le 31 tonnellate e la cabina poteva accogliere 200 soldati oppure 127 barelle per evacuazione sanitaria. Negli Stati Uniti ci sono ancora sei C-124 non volanti. (Aeromedia)
Douglas C-124C 52-1072 preserved at Charleston USAF AFB, South Carolina, USA (1995). The C-124 was the double-deck derivate of the previous Douglas C-74 Globemaster. Out of a total of 447 Globemasters II built, 243 were of the C-124C version, with increased range and powered by four 3,848 hp Pratt & Whitney R-4360-63A engines. This version was also equipped with combustion heater wingtip fairings and AN/APS-42 radar in nose radome. The Globemaster II had accomodation for 200 troops or 127 stretchers or more than 31 tons of general cargo. There are just six surviving Globemasters II in USA, none in flight condition. (Aeromedia)
