Jetlink Express, un operatore domestico del Kenia, basato al “Jomo Kenyatta International Airport” di Nairobi, diventerà la prima compagnia keniota ad utilizzare il jet regionale BAE Systems BAe 146 quando, a metà luglio, prenderà in consegna un "Serie 100" preso in wet-lease dall'Albanian Airlines.
Si tratta di un contratto di noleggio semestrale su base ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) per sostituire un Bombardier CRJ-200 utilizzato sulla rotta per Kisumi, ad ovest di Nairobi. Jetlink opera tre voli giornalieri per questa destinazione remota non lontana dal Lago Vittoria.
Durante i lavori di ripavimentazione della pista di Kisumi, che inizieranno il 30 luglio 2009 e dureranno sei mesi, la lunghezza utile sarà ridotta a 1.200 metri, insufficienti per il CRJ-200. Invece il BAe 146-100 riesce ad operare anche su una pista di queste dimensioni, con un carico utile soddisfacente.
Attualmente l'Albanian Airlines utilizza tre BAe 146 (un esemplare di ciascuna delle tre versioni) ma, con il noleggio di un McDonnell Douglas MD-82, nel luglio 2008, il BAe 146-100 è diventato il "velivolo di riserva" e quindi disponibile per questo contratto a medio termine.

Il Capitano Elly Aluvale - Direttore della Jetlink Express - è molto soddisfatto dalla prospettiva di aggiungere un BAe 146 alla flotta attuale, formata da quattro Bombardier CRJ-200 ed un Fokker F28 Fellowship 4000.

Jetlink Express, a Kenyan domestic and regional airline, based at Nairobi “Jomo Kenyatta International Airport”, will become the first Kenyan operator of the BAE Systems BAe 146 regional jet when it takes delivery in mid-July of a Series 100 aircraft that it is leasing from Albanian Airlines.
The aircraft has been acquired on a six-month ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) lease to replace the Bombardier CRJ-200 that is used to serve the popular local destination of Kisumi, west of Nairobi. Jetlink operates three daily flights to Kisumi which is adjacent to Lake Victoria.
The runway at Kisumi is being reconstructed for six months with effect from July 30th resulting in only 1,200 metres being available which renders it unsuitable for the CRJ-200. By contrast, the BAe 146-100 has the airfield performance and economics to operate this service with a good payload even from the reduced length runway.
Albanian Airlines currently operates three BAe 146s (one each of all three variants), but with the wet-lease - in July, 2008 - of a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 by the airline, the BAe 146-100 is used as a back-up aircraft and so was available to undertake this contract.

Captain Elly Aluvale, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Jetlink Express was equally ecstatic at the prospect of the BAe 146 joining their current fleet of five aircraft (four Bombardier CRJ-200 and one Fokker F28 Fellowship 4000).
