Con il 5.000° ordine per un aereo della famiglia A 320, Airbus ha raggiunto un traguardo assolutamente significativo. Solo negli ultimi due anni, gli aerei sviluppati attorno all’A 320 hanno ricevuto ordini per 1.600 esemplari, diventando i best-seller dell’aviazione commerciale sia in termini di quantità che di “velocità di vendita”. Il 5.000° ordine fa parte di una commessa per 30 esemplari di A 319 da parte della statunitense Spirit Airlines. Quasto nuovo contratto rafforza la posizione della famiglia A 320 nel mercato delle compagnie low-cost.
“Il 5.000° ordine per i nostri aerei della serie A 320 segna una tappa storica per Airbus e per la storia dell’aviazione”, ha commentato Louis Gallois, CEO di Airbus, “L’A 320 è sicuramente l’aereo passeggeri più diffuso al mondo, avendo superato qualunque concorrente prodotto come singola “generazione”. Ed inoltre il programma va ancora fortissimo, con il succedersi di ordinativi che hanno creato un arretrato da consegnare di oltre 2.000 unità. Questo quantitativo terrà le linee di produzione impegnate per parecchi anni a venire.”
Per far fronte alle richieste di velivoli della famiglia A 320, Airbus ha deciso di aumentare progressivamente la cadenza di produzione. Verso la fine del 2006 la quantità di aerei completati ogni mese è passata da 30 a 32, e salirà a 36 entro la fine del 2008. Sarà la più alta cadenza di produzione mai raggiunta da un velivolo a reazione commerciale.
I vari modelli della famiglia A 320 presentano, di serie, alcune caratteristiche uniche nella loro classe come le parti strutturali in leggeri materiali compositi, possibilità di imbarcare motori ed APU di vario tipo e soluzioni aerodinamiche che riducono i consumi. L’A 320 è stato il primo aereo di linea con comandi di volo che consentono un elevato grado di “commonality” con gli altri modelli della famiglia ed i tipi fly-by-wire proposti successivamente dal costruttore europeo. Questa caratteristica permette grande flessibilità nell’utilizzo dei piloti, generando maggiore flessibilità e risparmio sui costi di esercizio.
Gli ordini fermi per gli Airbus a corridoio singolo hanno raggiunto i 5.016 esemplari. Gli A 318, 319, 320 e 321 sono stati ordinati da più di 200 clienti in tutto il mondo, compresi quelli che già li utilizzano. Gli esemplari attualmente in servizio hanno accumulato complessivamente 50 milioni di ore di volo per 30 milioni di cicli.

With the 5,000th order for A 320 Family aircraft, Airbus has reached a significant landmark. In the last two years alone, the A 320 Family has received orders for around 1,600 aircraft, making it not only the best-selling but also the fastest-selling jet airliner of all time. The 5,000th order was reached with the sale of 30 A 319 aircraft to U.S.-based customer Spirit Airlines. This new order confirms the A 320 Family aircraft as the undoubted reference for the low-cost carrier market.
“The 5,000th order of our A 320 aircraft family marks an historic milestone for Airbus and the aviation industry”, commented Airbus Chief Executive Officer, Louis Gallois. “The A 320 is without a doubt the world’s most popular passenger aircraft, having outsold any other single-generation aircraft programme. In addition, the programme goes from strength to strength, with the continuing high level of orders giving Airbus an unprecedented backlog of more than 2,000 single-aisle aircraft. It will fill our production lines for many years to come.”
To match the strong demand for its A 320 Family, Airbus has decided to implement a steady production ramp-up. The monthly production rate was increased from 30 aircraft per month at the end of 2006, to its current rate of 32 per month and is scheduled to rise to 36 by the end of 2008. This will represent the highest production rate ever for any commercial airliner.
Uniquely in its class, the A 320 Family delivers many features as standard, such as a weight-saving composite primary structure, a choice of engines and auxiliary power units, and a fuel-saving aerodynamic design. The A 320 was the first airliner to have fly-by-wire controls, giving the highest degree of operational commonality both within the A 320 Family and with other Airbus fly-by-wire types. This gives airlines greater flexibility in pilot scheduling, helping them to achieve greater productivity and cost savings.
Firm orders for Airbus single-aisle aircraft now stand at 5,016 aircraft. The A 320 Family has been ordered by, or is in service with, more than 200 customers and operators worldwide and has completed 30 million flight cycles and 50 million flight hours.
