Nuovo successo per l’elicottero militare NH 90: lo scorso 19 giugno, il governo australiano ha approvato un progetto d’acquisizione per 34 esemplari. L’annuncio è stato dato a Canberra dal Ministro della Difesa australiano Brendan Nelson. Secondo quanto stabilito dal Programma AIR9000, i 34 NH 90 ordinati sono ribattezzati “MRH 90”, ovvero “Multi Role Helicopter”, e rappresentano la prosecuzione dell’ordine per un primo lotto di 12 esemplari, siglato il 2 giugno 2005.
Secondo il Ministero della Difesa dell’Australia, la commessa ha un valore di 2 miliardi di dollari australiani e consentirà di rimpiazzare modelli in uso da parecchi anni come Sea King e Black Hawk. Avendo ordinato un totale di 46 HN 90, l’Australia si conferma sempre di più un partner privilegiato di questo programma.
Il bimotore da trasporto medio MRH 90 è la versione dell’NH 90 sviluppata specificatamente per le esigenze australiane, con glass cockpit integrale, sistema di controllo fly-by-wire ed Automatic Flight Control System avanzato, oltre ad impianti di comunicazione, navigazione e sistemi di missione allo stato dell’arte. I due ampi portelloni laterali scorrevoli e la rampa posteriore forniscono grande flessibilità operativa nei momenti critici della missione.
La NH Industries agisce da capocommessa del programma per l’elicottero militare NH90, lanciato da Francia, Germania, Italia e Paesi Bassi, con il Portogallo che si è associato successivamente.

A new success for the NH 90 military helicopter: the Australian Government approved - on 19 June 2006 - the acquisition plan for 34 items of the type. The announcement was made in Canberra by the Australian Minister of Defence, Brendan Nelson. According to the AIR9000 Programme, the 34 NH 90s ordered are designated “MRH 90”, standing for “Multi Role Helicopter” and come in addition to the first batch of 12 MRH 90s signed for on 2 June 2005.
The Australian Minister of Defence said this MRH 90 acquisition was worth A$2 billion and will allow the Australian Armed Forces to replace both ageing Sea King and Black Hawk helicopters. Australia confirms a status of NH 90 privileged partner with a total oreder now for 46 NH 90s.
The twin-engine, medium-lift MRH 90 is the Australian version of the NH 90 and it will be equipped with full glass cockpit, fly-by-wire control system and an advanced Automatic Flight Control System together with state-of-the-art communication, navigation and mission equipment. The two wide sliding cargo doors and a rear ramp provide high operational flexibility.
NH Industries is the prime contractor for the NH 90 Helicopter Programme, launched by France, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands, later joined by Portugal.
